The most beautiful bueno in the world

There’s the sweetest security guard in my apartment in Bogotá. She also helps out with the laundry for the building. She’s a true Jill of all trades, and her energy is infectious.

When I brought my laundry down this morning, she offered to do it for me, even though that’s not really a thing in this apartment building. We’re supposed to do it on our own, and we’re supposed to pay.

When she asked me if I wanted colors and whites separated, I tried saying that it didn’t matter, but she didn’t get it. So I just said OK with a smile. And then I said muchas gracias, to which she replied Bueeeeno! She drew out the first syllable with such a passion for the moment. It was the sweetest, shortest song I’ve ever heard.

When I got back to my apartment, I mimicked her audibly while making a smoothie.

Bueeeno!

Bueeeno!

Bueeeno!

It sounds funny, but this made my day. She said this to me two hours ago and I’m still thinking about it.

I’m thinking about how I can live with more of a passion for life, even when I’m doing something static like sitting behind a computer. I’m thinking about how I love Colombianos (including my friend Diego who sold me “incense”). And I’m thinking about how I want to get even better at paying attention to the small things because that is where the hidden beauties lie.
